In this series of blog articles, we want to give voice to customers who take the time to tell us how and why they use Nextcloud in their daily operations, putting it into context within their industry.

Today we have the pleasure to have with us Javier López, manager and technical director of Draudimas Group.

Draudimas Group has been a customer since November 2024. They have their own Nextcloud instance on one of the largest Spanish cloud service providers and maintained by RCA Systems. In addition to support, Draudimas Group has entrusted us with a complex upgrade from Nextcloud 16 to Nextcloud 30, the managed Nextcloud Office service on our own infrastructure, and various training courses.

Hello Javier, could you introduce Draudigamás Group and your role in the company?
Draudimas Group is an insurance brokerage. We specialize in the maritime sector, construction, and engineering insurance. We have a team of 14 people, including myself, and I am the manager and technical director.

Why did you choose Nextcloud Hub as your collaboration platform?
We chose it for its versatility and the dynamics it gave us on a day-to-day basis, allowing everyone to be interconnected within the same platform and enabling us all to work remotely with the same platform and perform virtually any type of management task online.

You also mentioned that the insurance companies you work with conduct audits.
Yes, that's right.

Did this influence your decision to choose Nextcloud as your collaboration solution?
Having Nextcloud has made it much easier for us to respond more quickly to all audits, as all documentation, customer data and information is contained within the platform and securely accessible across all devices.

How does Nextcloud help with day-to-day operations?
Nextcloud allows us save time by having all the documentation we need centralized under one interface, one platform. This means that when a team member needs documentation on the fly, they can simply access the relevant folders via Nextcloud, download the information, and even share it with each other using Nextcloud's sharing panel or the internal chat. It's something that saves a lot of time.

What is your favorite feature in Nextcloud Hub?
Well, one feature I really like is the ability to manipulate and save documents online. Collaborative editing allows you to access Word, Excel, and any other type of Office template, work on the document itself, and have someone else on the team see those changes in the document right away.

What is the approximate total size of your documents stored in Nextcloud?
I think it's around 150 GB. Keep in mind that we have a large amount of documentation since we've been using the platform for eight years now.

What services has RCA Systems provided you with, and what do you appreciate most about them so far?
In terms of service, it offers me everything. It provides maintenance, and if there are any problems or minor errors or faults, they respond very quickly. And what else do I like most? Well, Pietro Marini was directly involved in the Nextcloud GmbH pre-sales team and has a very high level of knowledge about Nextcloud.

In December 2024, you had to update the platform.
Yes, actually I had to do two operations. First, I had to migrate to a new cloud provider and, second, upgrade the platform as it was very outdated, having gone almost four years without an update.
The update from Nextcloud version 16, which has not received patches or improvements since June 2020, was carried out by RCA Systems and was very quick and satisfactory because it had a noticeable positive impact on the performance and stability of the service.
